Vredenburg
Vredenburg is a town of the West Coast region of the Western Cape, South Africa.
Geography and History
"Vrede" is the Afrikaans word for Peace. It is the transportation and commercial centre of the West Coast area. It is located 12 kilometres inland from the coast at Saldanha Bay on the Cape Columbine Peninsula 138km north of Cape Town.
The town was established in 1875 initially as a Dutch Reformed Church to serve the surrounding communities, as the closest church was in Hopefield.
Vredenburg is surrounded by Fynbos, wheat fields and dairy and sheep farms.

Activities
The new West Coast Mall – with panoramic views over Saldanha Bay - has dozens of shops, including restaurants and coffee shops, as well as speciality stores selling everything from craft materials to sports equipment.
Vredenburg is a mixture of fish factories,hospitals and shopping malls, and the local tourist attraction - the Fossil Park - which consists of sightings such as giant pigs, short-necked giraffes and a massive bear that has become the park’s mascot - is a must see for any visitor to the area. This is only one of many activities to do here.
