Doringbaai

General Information

Doringbaai is essentially a little fishing village that used to be known as Thornbay.  It is situated in the West Coast region of the Western Cape.  Known as the bay where the Southern Right whales enter every year to calve between May to November, Doringbaai is a great place to escape from the busy city life.  A little know fact is that alluvial diamonds are vacuumed from the seabed at Doringbaai. 

Catering for tourists, Doringbaai has no shortage of holiday accommodation options from Guest Houses, Bed and Breakfasts to Self-catering units.

Activities and Attractions of Doringbaai

The areas along the coast north and south of Doringbaai have much to offer the visitor at any time of the year.  Walks along deserted beaches, 4 x 4 routes, hiking trails in the mountains, Namaqualand's flowers during late winter and spring, a world-renowned succulent nursery and many more activities are to be enjoyed.  Experience some delicious wine tasting at Fryer's Cove Vineyard.
